Articles Posted In 2002
Here are a few articles, essays, and opinions posted in 2002. The
articles were not necessarily written in the year posted.
The most recent article is shown at the top of the following list.
On Obsession
I have been told, as I’m sure you have, not to obsess over something.
Granted, at the time, that something was using up a lot of my time and requiring
most of my mental energy, but I thought I was enjoying my obsession.
Harry Potter Movie
A new Harry Potter movie is about to debut, I can hardly wait to
once again read all of the Letters To The Editor demonizing the movie,
the concept of magic, and the evils awaiting our impressionable children.
On Priests And The Law
Do priests deserve special consideration under the law? Should we overlook their
illegal actions or does the Vatican consider child abuse by a priest a minor but
embarrassing aberration and unworthy of a strong statement and of a stronger
punishment?
On Political Parties
Two major political parties control the politics of 50 states. These parties
draft platforms that try to represent the needs, wants, desires, and ambitions
of over 250 million citizens.
Man's Greatest Invention
The Biblical account of creation, though marvelously concise is not very
informative. Scientific accounts of creation though extremely lengthily are also
not very informative if one leaves out theories and conjectures.
Artificial Intelligence
We lowly humans are on the threshold of duplicating a miracle that has, so far,
only been ascribed to God or to evolution. And this miracle-like breakthrough
will surely come in a relatively short span of time because our intellect has
been directed toward this goal.
On Religion II
All religions are man-made to assume anything else is to exceed the bounds of
logic. Most religions claim to have been given directly from a divine source.
Perhaps this is true so far as the originators were concerned.
On Religion
Religions were one of the first inventions of humans. Even before humans could
speak, some form of religion must have existed. Humans have always wondered why
things happened that were beyond their control.
On Oneness
Before we were born into our body, this container, that part of us which is
eternal, our soul, our spirit, or whatever term you wish to use, decided with
the Higher Power’s help what we wanted or needed learn or to accomplish in
this life cycle.
On Morality
Morality is what we do when no one but ourselves and our Higher Power knows.
Morality does not require a belief in a Higher Power only a firm belief in what
we deem right or wrong.
Letter To A Friend
Your questions of the other evening started me to thinking. So, in answer to
your questions, I decided to write (type) down my thoughts in the hope that they
may help or at least comfort you.
On Karma
Karma is nothing more than a law that results from the use of free will. If we
did not have free will there would be no need for karma. Karma is not
punishment, it is a natural law of living, doing, and thinking.
On Religious Freedom
It seems that a majority of Americans think they know who or what God is. God is
that deity described in the Bible. There is no other true God only false gods.
Christianity, which is a new religions when compared to the history of
humankind, has declared all other gods as false and their God as real.
On Rituals
The purpose of ritual is to inform the mind that you want to change your mental
state. Rituals prepare the mind; help concentration. Concentration and state of
mind determine the effectiveness of prayers and the creation of magic.
On Masters
Most of us have heard the punch line: "It’s easy to walk on water if
you know where the rocks are." Masters know where the rocks are but the
rest of us simply get our feet wet.
On Magic
We have gotten use to thinking of magic as someone pulling a rabbit out of a hat
or an illusionist sawing someone in half. But magic is much simpler than that.
Magic is so common most of us don’t even recognize it when we see it.
On Society
What is a society? What is the purpose of a society? Who are its members?
What should a society provide to its members? Does a society have a
responsibility and what responsibility does it have?
On Reparations
At first glance reparations appear to be a great idea. Politicians and would-be
politicians use this hot-button idea to gain a block of voters and to promote
the idea of their fairness.
On Profiling
Profiling is part of everyday life; we all do it but we call it by different
names. Profiling is another name for discrimination. It is only illegal if based
on race, creed, or ethnicity.
