Here are a few articles, essays, and opinions posted in 2003.
The most recent article is shown at the top of the following list.
Saddam's Trial
Now that Saddam has been captured suggestions for where he should be
tried and by whom are sprouting. Where were these suggestion before
Saddam’s capture? Some non-coalition members and the U. N. have
suggested the World Court.
On Iraq II
The whole world is guilty of doing too little while thousands upon
thousands of Iraqi people were tortured and murdered without any pretense
of civilized due process.
Teenage Sex And Blame
Teenage sex is at an all time high if you believe the media and the
teens who responded to a poll on the subject. In some areas of the country,
high-school girls are wearing colored, plastic bracelets that indicate
their willingness to do anything from kissing to oral sex, or going all
the way.
On Religious Displays
Ousted Chief Justice Roy Moore of Alabama believes the display of the
Ten Commandments monument in publicly-owned places is a good idea. I
disagree with Judge Moore because he appears to be very exclusive in what
monuments or statues are displayed.
Terrorism Basics
Terrorism has existed for centuries. Terrorism is not relegated to just
third-world countries nor does it attract only the poor and uneducated.
Terrorist organizations exist in almost every country and often are
classless in its appeal.
Terrorism In The USA
The United States is faced with many terrorist groups and not all of
them are imported. Most of our terrorist organizations are masquerading as
militant organizations but their actions portray them as terrorists
instead of home guard.
Freedom Or Safety
Ever since the 9/11 terrorist attacks on New York’s Twin Towers questions have surfaced on how to
stop terrorism here in the United States. So far the answer is to punish
those we are trying to protect: limit, curtail our actions and our
freedoms.
Distorted Values
Why do we accept that any athlete is worth one to ten million dollars a
year? Sure, a good athlete does draw spectators but what they do isn’t
worth millions.
On Man
Man has made tremendous progress since he found he was superior to any
animal. He discovered that striking two pieces of flint together would
produce a spark and that spark could cause a thing called fire.
On Creativity
Most of our teachings, whether they be physiological, religious, or
scientific, tell more of our limitations than our abilities. We are taught
what we cannot do or overcome.
On Iraq
The Iraqi war of liberation is over but the battle for a civil
government and Iraqi personal freedom is just beginning. While I had
thought the Iraqi war would be longer and bloodier for both sides, I am
glad I was wrong.
Love Of Prejudice
We are in love with our prejudices and biases. Why? Because our
prejudices define who we are based on what we aren’t. I’m not just
referring to racial or ethic prejudices, although these are still the
major ones.
On Memories
Memories let us evaluate the past while pointing to our future. Memories are
more than just memory. Memories are past events recorded in our minds. Events
that carry sights, smells, feelings, and thoughts that flesh out each memorized
event.
On religion And Politics
Religion and politics are a deadly, explosive mixture. Religion becomes more
important than individual rights and political power provides belief
enforcement.
The Cost Of Exploration
Recent events have again reminded us that the cost of exploration is often the
lives of those brave enough to dare. While we realize that all actions result in
reactions, we choose to forget danger is a part of all actions and especially
those actions requiring courage and determination.
The Search For Purpose
We all search for a purpose beyond ourselves. We look for that something that is
worth our devotion, our effort, and our belief. The search for purpose takes
many forms and many different paths throughout our lifetimes.
The Search For Love
The search for love is really a search for the oneness of ourselves. We
mistakenly think the other half of out true self is a separate entity but in
reality the part we seek is waiting to be discovered within us.
On Abortion
Some are trying to use our democracy to return the women of the
United States to the Victorian era. This is all being done in the name of
the Right To Life. A noble sentiment but is the loss of women’s rights
worth the cost?
On Trust
Trust is something we all want but seldom find. We have become use to
the broken promise, the unkept word.
On Beliefs
Our beliefs are the lenses through which we view all events. Some beliefs are
like a wide-angle lens that show us a large area of the landscape but still only
a portion of it.
On Congress
The more I understand the operation of the U.S. Congress the more it reminds me
of high school. The names are different but the positions and personalities are
the same.
