Abortion Reply 2

From: Lstorms

I have read your web site. Let me first state that I do not support abortion in any way, shape, or form. I am writing to you because I want to more fully understand your position as well as others who do support abortion.

You mention in regards to abortion, "...nor is it the horrendous thing that some are making it out to be". I personally have viewed http://www.abortiontv.com/themanyways.htm and was completely and utterly horrified.

I work as a medical transcriptionist. I type dictated reports by ER physicians. When a woman comes into the ER it is necessary to obtain a complete medical background which includes prior medical history. It is astounding to me when women give their medical history that will include the following example, G4, P0, AB 4.

The "G" is for pregnancies. The "P" is for deliveries. The "AB" is for abortions. And then they will state that they have - NO SIGNIFICANT PAST MEDICAL PROBLEMS/ILLNESSES/SURGERIES. These same women when asked their "Social history" state that they are sexually active, using NO form of birth control whatsoever.

These are not cases of woman who are becoming pregnant and terminating their pregnancies because their own health is at risk. These are clearly woman who used abortion as their means of "birth control" . These are also not teenagers. This is very disturbing to me.

What are your feelings about this ?

Also, you state that "The anti-abortion movement is nothing more than a thinly-veiled backdoor method of forcing woman to deal with the consequences of enjoying the pleasures of the body".

Well, yes, there are consequences to enjoying the pleasures of the body, but this is not because of man or any anti-abortion movement. It is because this is how our bodies were designed. But who is really paying the price when men and women choose to enjoy the pleasures of the body and very irresponsibly also choose not to take some measure of prevention against pregnancy ? Why are we so irresponsible as a society ?

My sister-in-law works for a major corporation. This past summer alone, she had 3 co-workers, two of them married with children, one single with children, who became pregnant. NONE OF THEM NOR THEIR PARTNERS were using any form of birth control. All 3 had abortions. One of them, who has two daughters and is married, did not even tell her husband she was pregnant because "He would have wanted it" and she "just got her body back from the last pregnancy and didn't feel like being pregnant right now, maybe in a couple years".

How do you respond to this ?

Do you believe better an aborted baby than an unwanted baby ? I have debated this issue and been told that. I believe that is applying the same logic that Hitler used to kill "unwanted" retarded children and "undesirable" races like the Jews. I don't understand it.

Anyway, if you want to ask me any questions, feel free to do so. I am not trying to change your mind nor do I believe you can change my mind. I know why I am so passionately against abortion and I just wanted to have a friendly forum where I can talk to somebody whose views differ from mine in an attempt to understand why other people are so passionate in their own views as you are. Thanks.

Abortion is a hot-button and emotional issue. I suppose it starts with the question of when life begins and if life and the soul are the same and do they arrive at the same time. It could also be just a deep respect for all life.

The question that must be asked, "Whose life counts more: the mother or the possible child?"

Abortion is about rights and freedom. Just because some misuse it, isn’t sufficient cause to make it illegal for everyone. No, I don’t approve of abortion being used as a birth control method. But abortion does have its place. To save the live of a would be mother, to reduce the trauma of an incest or a rape victim, and perhaps to abort a would be child that will be severely mentally or physically handicapped.

How you look at these options usually depends on how you view life and what your religious beliefs are.

Some fundamentalists religions Christians and Muslims and others believe women are second class people and some go so far as to view women as property. These males want to have their sexual pleasure but hold the woman responsible should she get pregnant. It’s her fault; she should have been more responsible. These same males figure that if she does get pregnant then it’s the will of their deity.

Would outlawing abortions educate or encourage these type people??

If a woman is married, then before an abortion is allowed, both parties should agree because it affects both. If we make abortions illegal, those who have the money will simply go to countries that allow abortions. That means women who can’t afford to travel will resort to back-alley procedures and other unsafe methods. The rich will not be bothered by the law; the poor will be forced to risk their lives or have children they don’t want or can’t afford.

As I see it, the physical part of an abortion isn’t something I would not want to do or see but the primary objections to abortion are founded in religious beliefs. If that is what you belief then you should live to your beliefs but I don’t think it's a good idea to force others to live your beliefs.

More laws will not create responsible people, only proper teachings and values can create morality. The problem I have is that so far it looks like morality is tied to religion and doesn’t seem to be a basic human characteristic.
