Terrorism In The U.S.A.Home Grown Terrorist? The United States is faced with many terrorist groups and not all of them are imported. Most of our terrorist organizations are masquerading as militant organizations but their actions portray them as terrorists instead of home guard. Christian Patriots, Aryan Nations, and various white supremacists groups are just a few of the current U. S. terrorists groups. Some of these groups want to destroy the current government so they can rule. Some simply want to destroy all races except whites. Some believe their actions will bring Christ’s return to Earth. Some believe a secret cabal is plotting to rule the world and make Satanism the world’s religion. Many groups use the Bible as a basics for their doctrine. None of these groups see their motives and actions as counterproductive to their stated ends or to their religion. (If you believe Christianity is only a peaceful, non-violent religion, research these extremists and read your church history to see why they can easily believe what they do.) Can they honestly belief their God would sanction the killing thousands, perhaps millions even if they could succeed. Do they really believe their God would accept them destroying the very abode they believe He created for them? Or is it they believe doing nothing is worst than what could happen if their terrorism were to succeed? Do they believe others would just fall into line if our government were to suddenly disappear? Have they really considered the cost in human lives if water, food, and transportation were disrupted for months? What would happen to millions of people that count on city water systems, trucks to distribute food to stores, and the devastation of having no police forces to prevent rioting, looting, murder, and just plain civil unrest? What would happen if our armed forces were unable to protect us against an invading nation? The effects of a failed U. S. government would be world-wide. Other nations would not stand on the sidelines till things got sorted out. Besides, destroying our government by any internal force is extremely unlikely. Sure these home-grown terrorists may cause a few hundred or a few thousands deaths but the shear magnitude of our government and the diversity of our beliefs make total control and domination virtually impossible. Fortunately, these groups are like gnats pestering an elephant: more of a nuisance and a pest than life-threatening. Groups of this type are more dangerous to their immediate neighbors than to our nation and our way of life. Now don’t misunderstand, I’m not against changing governments, ever our own but I just don’t agree with terrorists’ methods. However, if terrorists really want to change things, why not try politics. While it isn’t usually physically violent, politics can be down and dirty. Between the name calling, infighting, back stabbing, and character assassination, you should really enjoy yourself. Politics is the best, most effective route if you really want change. Political terrorism (my words for dirty politics) is a fairly popular sport or so it seems. Just look at the gamesmanship Al Gore displayed with his backing of Howard Dean, but that’s another story. Look at what Martin Luther King accomplished through non-violent means. The fact that he had a righteous cause didn’t hurt. Politicians had a difficult time refuting what he was asking for because Mr. King spoke for every human ill-treated by society. Sure, some people didn’t like what he had to say, some hated him, his words, and his methods but they worked, not as well as he envisioned but there is still hope. Our government may have some bad characteristics but it is still the best available. If you have an idea of how to improve it other than to destroy it and most of use with it, advertise, run for office, or quit pretending to care. Democracy is about fairness and change; it is not about violence for the sake of a few. America has survived over two hundred years despite its flaws, not because it is a perfect system but because the system is changeable as its citizens require and demand it. The point is if you really want to change things, use the system, especially politics. My suggestion is to establish a viable third or fourth party to compete with the Republican and Democratic parties. Sure, we have the Independent party but it isn’t a force to reckoned with - at least not yet. Author: Don Miller
