Socialism's Appeal
Socialism must appeal to a lot of people because a lot of countries
have adopted it as a form of government. Socialism is not necessary
anti-democratic. It can exist in a democratic form and have all the
trappings of democracy but socialism isn’t equivalent to a democracy.
Socialism's Weakness
Socialism is a creeping virus that slowly destroys the will of its
people to be independent. It may not be intentional but socialism aims to
solve its people’s problems by equalizing economic conditions and by
creating a two-class society: the rulers and the ruled, the ins and the
outs.
Campaign Ads
Most of us claim to dislike negative campaign ads but what we consider
negative or positive depends at whom the ad is directed. Democrats
consider most Republican ads negative and, of course, most Republicans
consider Democratic ads negative.
Bush Or Kerry?
Most elections are rife with negative campaign ads but this 2004
presidential election seems to be setting a new, low standard. I favor
President G. W. Bush rather than Senator Kerry but it seems to me that the
Democrats have reached new lows in half-truths, slander, and character
assassination.
Voter Fraud
Voter fraud. No, I’m not referring to the Florida 2000 presidential
election problems. Both sides made a mess out of that situation and it
gave the Democrats something to be steamed about.
On Tolerance
I try my best to be tolerant of other people’s ignorance of their
religious beliefs. While I may disagree with their faith and beliefs, I
can tolerate and respect them especially if they have studied the history
of their faith.
On Control
Most of us seek to control our lives and our destines. We become
frustrated when we feel some one or some thing is controlling us or when
events are beyond our control.
A Fractured Nation
We are no longer a divided nation or even a splintered nation but
rather a nation fractured into hundreds of ideological viewpoints.
We have become a nation of self-interests with few uniting national interests.
Common Ground
We are losing our history, our heritage, and our American pride.
Without these things, we lose our direction. Without our nationalistic
pride, we too easily accept half-truths and lies.
Who Am I
I am composed of parts. Parts that usually appear to be at odds with
each other. Part of me wants peace, a part wants war; a part wants to
party and a part wants to be alone. Some parts are happy while others are
sad.
On Marriage
Marriage isn’t about individual rights; it isn’t about love; nor is it
about compatibility. Marriage is about the rights of society. The rights
of the society supersede the rights of the individual. Marriage is about
society’s rights because society’s survival depends on the actions of its
members.
Terrorism Prediction
There will be no organized, well-planned terrorist attach on Americans
within the boundaries if these United States until after the 2004
presidential elections or until it looks as if the Democrats cannot win
the White House.
On Faith
Faith is required in our daily activities. Faith assumes the Sun will
rise tomorrow or the driver next to you will not suddenly swerve into
you. Faith is hope backed by belief.
On Reasoning
Reasoning is that facility that allows the use of logic to infer or
deduce a conclusion. Reasoning is that ability to extend what is known
into the unknown and, by doing so, create something new.
On Empires
Empires are a natural extension of the human will to exist and to
survive. Empires protect a system of government or a system of beliefs
against obsolescence. Empires create history and change the world through
its actions or inaction.
Which God
The term God is used a lot by everyone from politicians, priests,
ministers, rabbis, as well as us common folks. We use the same term as if
it had one special, specific meaning. We all seem to assume that my God is
also your God and our understanding of what God is, is universal.
Political Leadership
So many politicians speaking; so little being said. But that is what
elections are all about: tell people what you think they want to hear and
hope they believe.
Politics Of Truth
I am constantly reminded that truth is not universal. Truth is
individual and filtered through that person’s beliefs and politics. Truth
is really a person’s viewpoint - not an absolute.
Origin Of Speech
This is my theory of how speech began; notice I did not say language.
The story of the Tower of Babel tries to explain the beginning of
languages but the story doesn’t stand up to scrutiny or archeological
evidence.
Gore And Dean
Ex-Vice President Al Gore has pushed the traditional endorsement time
forward by enthusiastically endorsing Howard Dean as the Democratic
presidential nomination. Al Gore is known to be a thoughtful, analytical
planner; so why the rush and why Dean instead of Lieberman?
Chaos Or Ignorance
Einstein and others have sought a unifying theory, at least in science.
Can everything, from science to human behavior be explained by one theory.
I doubt inanimate and animate objects can be fully explained with only one
theory.
Controlling Terrorism Part I
To effectively control terrorism, there are at least three items that
must be addressed. First, before we can control terrorism, it must be
accurately defined. Second, terrorist activities must be deprived of undue
media attention. Third, we must control the terrorists’ money supply. None
of these three items are easy to accomplish but to have a safer world, we
must find a way.
Controlling Terrorism Part II
Once terrorism is acceptably defined, we must find a way to deprive
terrorist organizations of their most valuable ally - publicity. Terrorists
stage events to shock and anger the world, to intimate a country or
government by national or world opinion.
Controlling Terrorism Part III
Another area that must be squelched is the terrorist's money supply. This
must happen even if we can’t agree on the first two steps. The U. S. has
made a start in this area but far too many countries don’t feel it is
necessary to cut off the terrorists money supply that is within their
banking systems.
