Allies And Enemies

Allies United By Common Goals

The Iraqi war has proven that not all allies are friends or even have a view in common with America of what terrorism is. The world appears to be divided into two major camps: those who hate and despise America and those who see us as necessary and beneficial to the world.

It is time for us to re-think our alliances and treaties. Do we really want or need an ally that actually works to hinder anything and everything we do on the world stage? Should we call a nation an ally that talks and acts like an enemy? Allies do not have to always agree but neither do they always have to disagree.

Allies do not compete for power but share power, responsibility, and a common vision for its people and for this world. Allies assist where they can and privately disagree when they deem it necessary. True allies are based on friendship and a common vision not on a treaty.

America must reward true allies with our business, our foreign aide, and by our technical assistance. We should remove our troops from places like France, Germany, and South Korea and move them to countries where the people and the governments want them or at least tolerate them. Beside, Europe is no longer the best place for our troops. In the war on terror, we need fast-response troops in the Far East, the Near East, and perhaps in South America and Africa.

Allies are important and we must look for people and governments that have an ideology that matches our own. We must look for nations that want to be friends not just take advantage of our good will. While we cannot afford to ignore Europe, we must pick and choose based on a nation’s actions.

If we are to promote freedom, we need the assistance of those nations that value freedom in all its people not just in its elite. We must seek out those nations that have moral and ethical values in common with us.

In this war on terror, allies are necessary but only those that see the threat as real an not as some made-up fantasy of America. We need allies that view terror as a war not as a criminal activity. Terrorism must be treated as something to be eliminated not as something to be contained or controlled. The rule of law cannot control those who have no respect for any human defined laws.

We must have allies who are united in not only the definition of terrorism but also in the methods of how to exterminate terrorism.
