On Laziness

Laziness: Art Or Science?

There is an art and a science to being lazy. Laziness is not idleness but the art and science of the appropriate action at the correct time. Laziness is when the body is idle but the mind is active. Laziness is looking for the easiest and best way to accomplish a task before starting that task.

Laziness is not procrastination; although, to the ill-informed and to type-A personalities it looks the same.

Laziness is the science of working an idea until a solution pops out. Laziness is the art of recognizing that solution. Laziness is the science of doing a task. Laziness is the art of knowing when that task is done.

Laziness is thinking then acting not acting and then thinking. Laziness is the application of thoughtfulness, observation, and the willingness to break old habits and rituals.

Laziness is trying to foresee the end result while trying to avoid wasted effort in achieving that result. Laziness is trying to avoid repeating steps while trying to avoid going in any direction other than forward.

Laziness is the ability to question what we do and the courage to wonder why. Laziness is taking a deep breath and studying the task rather than just starting and hoping. Laziness is planning what we are going to do and visualizing the results. Laziness is the desire to find the most direct, economical, and easiest route to accomplish those results.

The science of laziness is finding a way to perform a task with minimal effort while the art is in performing that task effortlessly. Laziness is the heart of creativity. Laziness desires to find better ways of doing the same old things. Without laziness, there can be no creativity.

Laziness is the art of doing nothing when appropriate and the science of acting at the correct time.
