Illegal Immigration

Illegal immigrants are insisting they have the right to live and work in this country. Their argument is that because our government has not done its job by keeping them out and by not deporting them when found, they have the right to stay.

This type argument is like saying that if I comment a crime but don’t get caught or get let go on a technicality, I’m not a criminal. This implies that all acts are innocent unless the act and actor is brought to justice: You are innocent unless you are caught and convicted.

Another catch phrase is, "No human is illegal". This is another attempt at separating the person from his or her actions. I can even agree that a human cannot be "illegal" but humans can and do perform illegal acts that must be legally dealt with.

Mexicans entering this country without a Visa, green card, or our government’s permission are performing an illegal act regardless of their intentions or their reasoning. The fact that the Mexican government provides quiet approval for their illegal acts indicates the value these illegals have to the economy of Mexico.

Mexico will not help stem the tide of humans illegally crossing our Southern border because their exodus and the money they send home does more for the Mexican economy that all of their other manufacturing and production. Illegals improve Mexico’s economy and reduces their poverty. So rather than fix the corruption, control the drug gangs, and reduce government inefficiency, Mexico encourages their citizen to break the laws of another nation.

The logic being used is rather weak but emotionally strong. These people have come here illegally but they work and have children and have settled into a new life. To deport them would be inhumane. This is an appeal to emotions not to logic or the law.

These people have built their lives on an illegal act that is a part of their lives. While it may be emotionally difficult, the laws must be enforced or done away with. Either we have an immigration policy and laws or we don’t. Either we have closed, controlled borders or we open them to any and to all.

The supporters of these illegals tell us how much illegals add to the U.S. economy. However, they don’t mention the cost these illegals add to our local and federal taxes. Between the money illegals make, the money they send home, the cost for educating their children, and the medical cost they incur that we taxpayers pay for, illegals cost much more than they contribute.

The Senate is again promoting a "comprehensive" immigration bill. What the Senate doesn’t seem to understand is we ‘We Don’t Trust You’. You promised an immigration solution in ’86 but failed to deliver and failed to enforce it. You created a bill that has only made things worse. Much worse! So why should we trust you now?

True, the Democrats were in charge in ’86 and now the Republicans are in charge; however, some of you were there in ’86. You passed a fiasco of an immigration bill and now you expect us to trust you yet again. Why should we?

Most of us believe you place your own interest and your party’s interest above our country’s interest. You even offer good arguments for you new "comprehensive" immigration plan. You even make sense but what you refuse to understand is we still don’t trust you. Prove that you really want o control the flow of illegal immigration by closing the borders.

Prove you can do this one thing first, then we may have reason to believe you again. Close the borders then implement a guest worker program and a fair immigration program. Prove to us you can and will enforce our existing immigration laws and that people who break those laws, be they U.S. citizens or not, will be held accountable.

We need more migrates and less emigrates or immigrates. We do need a guest worker program that allows people to come here and work but then go home. But a guest worker program cannot work unless we have complete border control and enforce existing immigration laws.

Prove to us you have the will to protect us, then we may choose to believe you for the rest of the changes needed to our immigration problem.

Prove you care about us, the citizens of this nation, more than you do about acquiring new voters. Prove we mean at least as much to you as your party loyalty.

Prove you care by doing what most of us want: Protect our borders - stop the flow of illegal immigrants.
