Why Google Dances

Relevancy: The key To Google’s Dance

We should ask ourselves, "What is Google’s reason for changing its algorithm?" It’s all about relevancy and how best to achieve it regardless of all other tricks, including false and misleading content.

Google is searching for the best solution that provides the best relevancy for its searchers. The problem is that with every Google change, SEO experts find a way to use that change to their advantage. Their customers demand high rankings for their keywords and phrases because rankings do equate to money. So the dance goes on with Google leading.

My guess is Google is trying to find a way to minimize optimization techniques that involve anything more than good, human-readable content. While there is already some penalty for graphic-only navigation, I believe Google will find a way to incorporate a site’s navigation into its rankings. In other words, ease of use will be measured. How? I’m not sure but if I find a way, maybe Google will pay me for it.

Google’s aim has always been to provide a searcher with the best sites that are relevant to the search query. This is very difficult to do when webmasters and other experts use inappropriate page titles, misleading content, and when the searcher isn’t sure what he or she really wants.

For Google to be effective at predicting and interpreting your search query, it needs a system that may rile most people, not to mention the use and misuse this type of information could be put to if placed on the market.

One way to ensure relevancy is to evaluate each search term based on past searches using those same terms and whether the searcher was successful. I believe this method is currently used but only in a small way. This method requires a search query database and maybe even user tracking. If I enter the word "hose", Google could determine through my past searches if I am most likely to mean a "garden hose" or "pantyhose".

I think such a system would work if the user is allowed to opt-in and if the user could be assured that his search data will not and cannot be made public even under court order.

One reasonably secure way to do this is to allow Google to create a file on your computer that stores this data. Google could then access this file for each search but not be allowed store this data on their own computers. I know, Big Brother and all that so it must be well protected.

Another method is a pre-search page. If I simply type automobiles, a pre-search page would ask predefined questions based on the entered search query.

Questions like:

New or used
Make or model
Price range
Color
Desired location

All this information could then be used to provide the most relevant sites to the searcher. This would greatly aid inexperienced searchers and by allowing the user to bypass the pre-search page, not irritate the experienced searcher.

Every search system, no matter how good, can be misused by people who care more about page ranking than page relevancy. Google must get tough on improper optimization methods and search engine cons. If this can be done then search engine optimization will finally mean content optimized for humans.

The Google dance is attempt to find a way to reduce the effects of cons over contents.
